How can a weekend really change your life?  It is so hard to change years of bad habits; I had made so many promises to myself to "start a new program on Monday." Monday would roll around and by Wednesday I was eating the wrong things and not sticking to an exercise routine. I knew I needed an atmosphere free of distractions so I could focus on getting fit and healthy.

I made two separate trips to Vero Beach to train. Bonnie counseled me on the simplicity of losing weight, calories in versus calories out. Genius! Why had it been so hard before? The quick start I got being away from home and devoting time to myself is what got me going and kept me on track. It has resulted in a 38 pound weight loss over 6 months!

Would you recommend this to your friends? If you are having trouble getting started on new healthy habits, I would highly recommend taking time for yourself to get away from home and your regular routine. It is an investment in your future health. It has changed my life!

What made this experience different than other diets or training experiences? When you make the commitment to go away and truly immerse yourself in changing your way of life, it leads to a stronger commitment. Also, Bonnie and Steve make it simple; easy it is not, but simple yes. Eat less calories than you burn. Get strong and get moving. They are kind but tough. What made the difference for me in eating was keeping a food journal; that way I truly knew how many calories I was eating and kept myself accountable.

 

 

360 miles away & 100lbs thinner

In the fall of 2005, I had reached a point where I weighed around 250 pounds. I literally was desperate to find ‘the answer’ to my obesity. I had experienced yo-yo dieting all my life, and for several years leading up to this point, I was ‘comfort eating’. I had lost my parents, my favorite dog, our two horses, and I was just hiding in food. I knew better; I just lost all motivation, and I felt so alone. I lived out in the country with no gym within 45 miles. Although my daughter and her husband (Bonnie & Steve) owned a gym in Vero Beach……I was on my own. Or, so I thought. At the same time, Anna (our 13 year old daughter at that time) had gone to stay with Bonnie & Steve in order to work out, get in shape, lose weight and learn how to eat right! She ended up loving Vero so much she begged to stay until we could sell our farm and come to Vero.

So, I remember I looked deep inside myself and knew in my heart that I was not being the productive person God had made me to be. I also knew that my career was on the line. I was not producing like I should, and I needed to be sharp and quick, with tons of energy. As an Event & Conference Director for a large trade association….I needed to be at the top of my game….I was not only failing my employer, but I was failing myself. I HAD TO DO SOMETHING……something that got results, something that would last, something that I could really LIVE with!

So, Bonnie & Steve began to train me ‘long distance’. Yes……that’s right……360 miles away! They put me on a 1200 calorie diet; they told me to start ‘moving’ and they held me accountable by my emailing them every single thing I put in my mouth. I began by walking 1 mile in the morning and 1 mile in the evening on my treadmill that I had put in the middle of my dining room! I put it there so I would be accountable to myself. I hated it being in there because I like my house to be in order….but this one trick worked for me. Bonnie & Steve taught me how to eat, and why I needed to eat 5 times a day, and why I needed to eat less carbs, more protein and less calories in each setting. (100 calorie snacks and 350 calorie meals). I honestly didn’t think it was possible!

Well, I cannot tell you all the details, because it has been almost 4 years…..4 years of learning… but, 4 years of success. One hundred pounds lighter, more motivated, more energetic, sharper, and totally blowing the socks off my employer….I can tell you that this life is the life I want to live! Let me tell you something…..we are IN CONTROL of our bodies, our lives and our health. We can live longer, and with more quality if we eat only what we need, and exercise our muscles and our heart.
